After immigrating to Canada from Kingston, Jamaica, Clarke studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design. His work has won international acclaim, including a recent commissioned portrait of the late Austin Clarke by the Royal Ontario Museum.

 

Clarke has received the AJ. Casson Medal & Honour Award, the Charles Comfort Medal and the David B. Mime award, among many others. He is also the Founder and President of the Society of African Canadian Artists.
